STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD
WORKSHOP SESSION -- DIVISION OF CLEAN WATER PROGRAMS
NOVEMBER 4, 1998
ITEM 1:FIRST ANNUAL REPORT BY THE PAJARO VALLEY WATER MANAGEMENT AGENCY ON THEIR PROGRESS TO STOP THE SEAWATER INTRUSION (INFORMATION ITEM)
DISCUSSION: In the process of adopting the Seawater Intrusion Control Loan Program Guidelines (Resolution No. 97-097), the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) requested that the Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency (Agency) submit a report on their progress every six months beginning May 1998. In addition, the SWRCB requested that the Agency appear to present their report annually.
Resolution No. 97-097 reserved the SWRCB's right to reduce the $5 million reserved for the Agency if sufficient progress, in the eyes of the SWRCB, is not being made.
POLICY ISSUE: Is sufficient progress being made by the Agency to stop seawater intrusion?
FISCAL IMPACT: If the SWRCB decides that sufficient progress is not being made and reduces their loan commitment to the Agency, then those funds would be available for other agencies projects.
RWQCB IMPACT: Central Coast RWQCB.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION: None. [This is an information item only.]
