Nonpotable Reuse Information
About
Recycled water from sources that contain domestic waste may be used for a variety of nonpotable applications in California including irrigation, impoundments, and industrial or commercial cooling. The allowable applications, required treatment, and use area requirements are defined in the Water Recycling Criteria, Title 22, Division 4, Chapter 3 of the California Code of Regulations.
"Undisinfected secondary recycled water" means oxidized wastewater.
Undisinfected secondary can be used for surface irrigation of limited types of crops and flushing of sanitary sewers. The full list of allowable uses is described in Article 3 of the Water Recycling Criteria.
