MCleak Enhanced Interstice Test for Doubled-Walled Tanks

Interstitial Tightness Test Method

Certification Leak rate of 0.005 gph with PD = 99.97% and PFA 3.3%
Leak Threshold 0.0017 gph
Applicability Liquid filled tank interstices. Approved liquids: Water and Brine. Method does not test single-walled portions of tanks such as bungs and manway penetrations.
Interstitial Capacity Maximum of 1,500 gallons.
Waiting Time Tanks must be placed out of service for 72 hours. No fluids may be added or removed from the tank primary or interstice for 72 hours before testing.
Test Duration The test duration varies based on the surface area of the interstitial liquid.
Temperature Measurement not required by this method.
Groundwater Ground water level is not determined and does not impact test. If the tank primary contains liquid, the test duration is determined by calculating the flow rate produced by the pressure differential and extending the test duration period to achieve the test sensitivity.
Calibration Not required with this test method.
Comments

The MCleak Enhanced Leak Detection Method automatically calculates the test duration accounting for variations in primary and interstice elevations. In conditions where there is liquid in the primary tank, interstitial fluid may be brought above the operating level to overcome the head pressure of the primary fluid. At no time can the interstice pressure exceed manufacturer specifications. The interstice must be filled to a level pursuant to manufacturer's specifications. The minimum waiting period between topping off the fluid level in the interstitial reservoir to fine tune the desired level for testing is 1 hour.

This method is not for use with glycol filled interstices.
