Groundwater Recharge Diversions
The State Water Board has developed a special program to help people obtain permission to divert surface water into underground storage and divert flood flows to alleviate flooding while recharging California's depleted groundwater basins. The Groundwater Recharge Diversions webpage provides information on the different application types available to capture and store surface water, streamlined permit criteria available for Groundwater Sustainability Agencies, requirements for diverting flood flows for groundwater recharge, and other resources.
