Limited principal forgiveness/grants for publically-owned systems serving disadvantaged communities. | |||
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Assist public water systems in financing the cost of drinking water infrastructure projects needed to achieve or maintain compliance with Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requirements and to further the public health objectives of the SDWA, including but not limited to replacement of defective water meters, treatment for primary and secondary Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs), replacement of aged water transmission or distribution tanks and mains, groundwater wells or other infrastructure. Also includes soft cost such as legal, planning, preliminary engineering, design, water sources, interconnections, consolidations, acquisition of water systems, purchase of land or equipment, and extending service to residents currently served by individual wells or surface water sources. |

For instance, projects that are listed in the NPS include sediment control, hydro modification, septic to sewer conversions, sewer interceptors, land acquisition, wastewater treatment systems, groundwater reclamation, and desalters/desalination addressing an environmental issue. |
